Role Purpose
A Senior Planning Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing project schedules, ensuring timely completion and resource allocation. Main Role is to develop comprehensive schedules, monitor progress, mitigate potential delays, in addition to reservation of entitlement for Extension of Time. Their role aims to enhance project efficiency and successful execution through strategic planning and effective communication.
Key Accountabilities
- Project Schedule Development: Create comprehensive project schedules based on project scope, resource availability, and constraints, ensuring accurate representation of timelines and milestones.
- Resource Allocation: Collaborate with site managemnet to allocate personnel, equipment, and materials efficiently, optimizing resource utilization while meeting project requirements.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential schedule risks and develop mitigation strategies to proactively address challenges that may impact project timelines.
- Progress Monitoring: Regularly monitor project progress, track actual accomplishments against planned activities, and generate progress reports for management and stakeholders. In addition to developing of recovery, acceleration and mitigation plans depending on the progress Status.
- Performance Analysis: Analyze schedule performance metrics, such as critical path analysis, variance analysis, and earned value management, to assess project health and identify areas needing attention.
- Coordination and Communication: Facilitate communication among project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on scheduling goals, priorities, and changes.
- Change Management: Evaluate the impact of scope changes or unforeseen circumstances on the project schedule and recommend adjustments as needed.
- Delay Management and Contractual Compliance: Employ diverse delay analysis techniques, to analyse delay impacts on project timelines and formulate extension of time (EOT) claims, underpinned by robust delay analysis and comprehensive documentation.
- Documentation: Establish professional document management system for project data (Dashboards, Progress Tracker, Progress reports…).
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with clients, contractors, and relevant authorities to provide schedule-related updates, address concerns, and manage expectations.
- Training and Development: Provide mentorship and training to junior planning staff, contributing to their professional growth and the overall competency of the team.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and advancements in project management methodologies to enhance scheduling effectiveness and efficiency.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
The successful candidate profile will have:
- A substantial track record in planning and scheduling for construction projects, with progressive responsibilities and a diverse range of project types and scales.
- Technical Expertise in using project scheduling software (e.g., Primavera P6), critical path analysis, delay analysis methods, and other relevant tools.
- Relevant certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional), PSP (Planning and Scheduling Professional), RMP (Risk Management Professional), or other industry-specific certifications.
- Leadership Skills in leading or mentoring junior planning staff, demonstrating leadership qualities and team coordination abilities.
- Good interpersonal, written, and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Ability to organize work effectively under pressure and prioritise work accordingly.
