Role Purpose
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing accounting activities related to construction projects, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and effective cost control. The role involves supervising junior accountants, preparing financial statements, and supporting project financial management.
Key Accountabilities
- Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure accurate recording of project revenues, costs, and expenses.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and intercompany transactions.
- Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules.
- Project & Cost Accounting
- Monitor project budgets, costs, and profitability.
- Track project expenditures and ensure alignment with approved budgets.
- Analyze project cost variances and provide financial insights to management.
- Support project managers with financial data and cost reports.
- Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with local laws, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Prepare tax filings (VAT, WHT, corporate tax) and coordinate with external auditors.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Supervision & Coordination
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff.
- Coordinate with procurement, HR, and project teams for accurate financial data.
- Support audits and provide required documentation.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA) is an advantage.
- 5–10 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or contracting.
- Strong knowledge of project accounting and cost control.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Excel.
