Mechanical Technical Manager

Role Purpose

The Mechanical Technical Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing all mechanical technical activities across construction projects, ensuring that mechanical works are properly designed, coordinated, documented, approved, and executed in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes and standards, specifications, and approved drawings.

The role requires close coordination with design consultants, clients, subcontractors, procurement, construction, and other MEP disciplines to ensure technically compliant and constructible mechanical systems are delivered on time and within budget.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead and manage all mechanical technical activities for assigned construction projects.
• Review and coordinate mechanical designs, shop drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical submissions.
• Ensure designs are technically sound, coordinated, constructible, and compliant with project requirements.
• Review and approve technical submittals before submission to consultants/client, where applicable.
• Identify technical risks, design gaps, clashes, and constructability issues and propose practical solutions.
• Provide technical support to project and site teams throughout construction.
• Coordinate mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water, ventilation, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, and other relevant systems according to project scope.
• Review IFC drawings, design documents, specifications, and project requirements.
• Coordinate mechanical works with architectural, structural, electrical, civil, and other disciplines.
• Participate in design coordination and BIM/clash detection meetings.
• Review and resolve RFIs, technical queries, and design discrepancies.
• Coordinate design changes and ensure proper documentation and approval.
• Provide technical guidance to site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
• Monitor mechanical installation activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.
• Support construction teams in resolving technical problems and site constraints.
• Review method statements, inspection and test plans (ITPs), material submittals, and installation procedures.
• Participate in inspections, testing, commissioning, and handover activities.
• Ensure that as-built information is accurately maintained and updated.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Procurement, QA/QC, Planning, Commercial, and Site teams.
• Coordinate with consultants, clients, authorities, suppliers, and subcontractors on mechanical technical matters.
• Attend technical coordination meetings and provide updates on outstanding technical issues.
• Monitor technical deliverables against project schedules and identify potential delays.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Professional engineering certification is an advantage.
• 10-14 years of relevant experience in construction, MEP contracting, or building services.
• Proven experience in managing mechanical technical activities on large-scale construction projects.
• Experience with commercial, residential, hospitality, healthcare, industrial, or mixed-use projects is preferred.
